Mentoring
Our mentoring programme works alongside other partners and referring agencies. It works in concert to ensure that young people get a complete wrap around support that deals with all their needs. This approach ensures that any issues, gaps and concerns can be raised with the relevant partners and be dealt with. This also ensures that the impact D2R has is sustainable and long term.
Mentoring Approach
Trauma Informed
It is vital to ensure that young people are not exposed to more harm than they already have. This extends to where and how we approach young people to avoid anxiety and triggering environments. It defines our practice of session delivery on young peoples terms.
Responsibility
Young people are taught the difference between reacting and responding. Given the coping mechanisms and support to take a step back and rationalise behaviour with reference to short term gain and long term pain. Importantly to value short term pain for long term gain. Such as education, training and a career.
Accountability
Young People are coached on understanding that their choices are the reason they find themselves where they are. Our aim is to ensure that we develop leadership in young people that means developing accountable adults. Reinforcing responsible behaviour young people learn to own their past and take control of their futures.
Resilience
All our work aims to build resilient, well informed, wise decision making youth with future prospects. Young people with the self esteem, confidence, skills, knowledge to make good choices. Resilience being the best barrier to address vulnerabilities that make them targets for crime, violenc and gangs. Giving them an identity within society that counteracts any sense of belonging they felt on the streets.
Support Young People
The mentoring programme is usually delivered by partners that pay for the services. As this funding is often ringfenced by the funders this limits who and how we accept referrals onto specific projects. Though we support spot pricing, this is exceptional and usually within the context of statutory provision. Ensuring young people are safeguarded and get all the help they need to thrive. We have supported housing associatons, schools, charities and local authorites expand their capacity with our specialist support.
